FAQ

Q: How soon should we start having lessons?

A: You should try to plan ahead with your dance lessons as much as possible. You wedding dance is one of the most important parts of the day, and will be a lasting memory for many years to come. It's a good idea to look at booking your first lesson at least 3 months out from your wedding day to give you time to feel comfortable with your routine.

Q: How many lessons do we need?

A: The amount of lessons required will depend on a number of things. The type of dance you wish to learn, the amount of time before your wedding, how long you wish to dance for and how much time you have to practise. You teacher will discuss this with you upon the first meeting and at this time be able to assess your learning ability and skill level to arrange a schedule of lessons to suit your needs. Each person has a different way of retaining information and remembering steps, and some people have dance experience or knowledge to draw upon. Remember that dancing together is a team effort, one person may learn quicker than the other. As the saying goes, "It takes two to Tango", and this is a good rule to practise by.   Ultimately the number of lessons is up to you, but as a general rule, a simple routine will require at least 2 lessons, while a more complex routine may take up to 6 or 7 lessons.

Q: What song should we choose?

A: There really is no limit to the song choice for a wedding dance these days. Upbeat songs are becoming just as popular as an old fashioned bridal waltz. Most people will choose a song that is special to them or a song that means something to them emotionally. If you are concerned about your song choice, or would simply like some advice, give us a quick call or send an email and we will be happy to advise you of the suitability of the song.  If you are worried that the song is too long, too fast or slow, we can also edit your music to suit. See our section on music choices if you would like some ideas.

Q: What should we bring/wear to our lessons?

A: Bring a CD with your song or songs you have chosen to dance to. A camera with video recording function to record your new steps is also very handy if you get stuck on a step whilst practising at home. Wear comfortable clothing so you can move freely. Stretch pants or a long skirt for the woman and long pants for the Man and comfortable shoes are always a good start. For your last couple of lessons, it is a good idea for you both to wear your wedding shoes so you get used to the feeling of dancing in them.

Q: How often should we practise?

A: You don't have to spend hours every night, just 15-30 minutes every second or third night is enough for most couples. Practising for short periods of time regularly is better than practising once, the night before your next lesson. It sometimes doesn't take long to forget what you have learned, so if you practise after your lesson, the choreography will still be fresh in your mind and you will be able to recall the movements with ease. Ultimately, how comfortable and confident you feel on the day will be up to the amount of practise you do together.

Q: Can other people be involved in our lesson?

A: Yes. Lessons may also include your bridal party, parents or friends at a cost of $5 per extra person. You will need to advise your teacher prior to your lesson if other people will be attending.

Q: What times are available for lessons?

A: Lessons may be conducted during the day, of an evening or on the weekends. We will do our best to find a time that is suitable to you.

Q: How can we pay?

A: You may pay cash, EFTPOS or direct debit for your lessons. If you require the EFTPOS facility please advise you teacher before you lesson. All we ask is that you pay for the lesson you are about to have in advance.

Q: What if we need to cancel our lesson?

A: If you do need to cancel or reschedule your lesson, please do us the courtesy of calling with 24 hours notice. This will give us the opportunity to offer your lesson time to other couples. Lessons cancelled with less than 4 hours notice will incur a $20 cancellation fee.

Q: Where is your studio?

A: Our private studio is located at Unit 2/9 Wairopi St, Idalia.  See this map for directions.
